Thanks for sharing these pics. i love how they show a side of NYC that most people might not necessarily see (i.e. not the touristy SATC stuff the media likes to blast out). My favorites are still the food pics... so good.

reina: thanks for your comment! history was always my favorite subject. Sounds to me like peru has an ethnic history similar to america. chinese people contracted to build railroads (and treated like slaves!) sounds so similar to what happened to chinese immigrants in the states during the gold rush. concerning the food - the restaurant does actually distinctly have a huge selection of separate spanish and chinese dishes, but they do have a smaller list of peruvian dishes and even traditional hong kong cuisine. The dishes that we order when we go there, just happens to be either spanish or chinese, so I didn't mention the traditional peruvian dishes on the menu. I had no idea that Chinese Peruvian food was called "chifa" - so thanks for that! good to learn something new every day. I don't think though that the food they were serving was really a fusion of Peruvian or Chinese cuisine, rather it was just Spanish, Chinese, and Peruvian food served side by side on a menu. But maybe that's how it is in Peru also?

p.s. in my book, there's nothing wrong with a person, cuisine, book, movie, etc., being weird or strange!! i love being exposed to and experimenting with the unknown. If nothing was weird or strange, how boring a world would it be to live in!! :)

darling a mix of chinese and "spanish" food is not weird, nor strange. peru is an organic fusion of all ethnicity's. yes there is a slight "spanish" influence from the spainards when they colonized peru, however the cuisine in peru is of the finest and is a mix of indigenous indian, african, chinese, japanese, jewish and italian. just so you know, the chinese were contracted out to build the railroads in peru and in essence they were forced to be slaves, just like the africans. there is a massive population of chinese in peru. and those of us who are blended with those bloods are either known as chino-latino or afro-peruvian. SO we peruvians call the mix of chinese and "peruvian" (NOT spanish) food chifa. you say that to any peruvian and they'll know exactly what you're talking about. just thought you should know the history behind this "weird" and "strange" food you're referring to.

The Flea!

I post about what I find at the flea almost every weekend. Glad to see you enjoyed it. It actually takes place on Saturdays in Fort Greene which is also a very nice area in Brooklyn. It is filled with a lot of great places to eat! You should check out the flea sometime over there and perhaps grab brunch at Maggie Brown(http://www.maggiebrownrestaurant.com/). The biscuits with raspberry butter are amazing!

I went to DUMBO last May, I took Brooklyn pizza tour and it was awesome. So many movie shots there and the Italian spirits, hahahaha...I'm plannin to check out their flea market, hopefully this Aug.
