perla is the kind of space where you know you'll be settling in for a few hours, serious cocktail in hand, plates on plates of delicious food, and the slightly blurred philosophical conversation that ensues post bourbon-induced happy daze. my kind of night, my kind of place.

sunday at the museum: taking in an extensive christopher wool exhibition and let's face it, once again marveling at the architectural stunner that is the frank lloyd wright designed guggenheim museum. this might be one of my favorite exhibits viewed here yet because it gave me a chance to experience the actual physical space in a completely new way. the gentle progression upwards was almost as enjoyable as rewinding back down, revisiting each work again quickly at a gravity enforced accelerated pace.

remember that restaurant with the chopped beef and uni dish? oh yeah and who could forget about that foie gras grilled cheese. well kids, chez sardine also does brunch. a 90 minute yoga session prefaced this meal so i can happily justify this grain-filled food & drink excursion but i have to say i'm sort of regretting not going all out for the shrimp okonomiyaki or the pork belly and cornbread. namaste little sardine, i'll be back for brunch round 2 soon.

More Love Hours Than Can Ever Be Repaid and The Wages Of Sin

one of my new years resolutions is to work harder at keeping myself challenged. we all have the same 24 hours in a day and I have to strive harder to make the minutes count. viewing this huge retrospective for mike kelley brought a lot of questions and thoughts to mind but one feeling I couldn't shake was just the overall awe of how much work he had completed during his tragically short career. it's a testament to how much productivity and creativity can come from a mind that is challenged and passionate about their craft. hoping to gain more of that perspective this year.

nothing like sitting down to a three course lunch on a thursday to make the most of my last few days of being on holiday. there's no other place i'd rather do it than at a place like m. wells dinette where everything i ate was just so damn good. not shown are also the two bloody marys that somehow tasted a little bit like barbecue sauce in the best possible way and a simple plate of great crusty bread served with fluffy sea salt flaked butter. that beef tartare with that perfectly soft-boiled egg and beef wellington sitting in a syrupy balsamic reduction though... really tastes as good as it looks.
