where food is left to be food and attentive service is king, a ten is always is always a ten and diners will always leave with happy fulfilled faces. zenkichi is one of these places. intimate, fresh, simple, remote. recipe for success in my book.

coffee and treats at toby's estate

macchiato

salted caramel coconut macaroon

soy latte

sun-drenched, jack and the beanstalk-friendly high ceilings, glorious knick knacks and books expertly strewn about on their custom built wall-shelving units, exposed red brick - forget buying a cup of coffee, where can i sign the lease and when's the move in date?

this williamsburg coffee spot toby's estate, is turning out some great coffee, not to mention offering up a delicious array of snackables. i opted for the salted caramel coconut macaroon, my sweet poison of choice second only to the rice crispy treat, but every other person in the room seemed to be eating the avocado toast. made a mental note to self to go for breakfast next time on a hungry stomach. at least hungry enough for avocado toast and maybe another one of those lick-your-fingers-good gooey, sticky, cripsy bites of heaven macaroons.

lunch at momo sushi shack in bushwick

spicy tuna handroll - if i didn't know any better... i would've eaten about ten of these

pork betty

kinpira magic - one of my favorite things to eat!

party bomb: spicy mc bomb, mc low bomb, pink bomb, and
spicy una bomb

prelude to actually writing about the food - first post of 2013! happy new year everyone. thank you for continuing to read my blog despite the rather bumpy posting rate. unfortunately or fortunately (whichever way you'd like to call it!), my aggressive work schedule and the boy's penchant for lovingly convincing me to play vs. spend time in front of this glowing iMac screen has deterred me from posting as often as I'd like! Hoping to publish a more extensive/comprehensive/easily accessible list of my new york city favorites this year and also fulfill a little mini dream blog project of mine but all of that is still to come! let's cross our fingers and make a little wish that the stars align to help nudge our willpowers along to make this the best year yet!

Momo Sushi Shack is another amazing place in Brooklyn that makes me long/anxious for the 2053 days when we will be teleporting up a storm. how happy my tummy would be then.

I love me a good sushi hand roll and Momo does not disappoint. I would suggest ordering this A$AP. I also never met a lotus root I didn't like but the one here was exceptionally good - call me a sucker for super thin slicing and great seasoning skills.

Planning on going back here for dinner to get a handle on their sashimi action!

across the bridge

details. acne metal leather jacket. illesteva sunglasses. yigal azrouel cardigan. proenza schouler boots. chanel bag.

the boy and i spent a few days out in brooklyn, staycation style, to celebrate our anniversary. i think between the two of us we drank about eight shots of espresso a day and still managed to take three hour mid-day naps.

it was a welcome getaway from the hustle bustle of manhattan city life and our cramped apartment space where there always seems to be one meeko too many... for a nine pound pup, he has the habit of taking up a lot of space (and my entire side of the bed). craving to have a living space to stretch my legs, buy some decent (large!!) furniture and have a closet where i can actually see the clothes i own rather than wake up to a mass blob of fabric every morning. brooklyn do i dare cross the bridge and stay forever??

roberta's in bushwick

the beastmaster with sausage, gorgonzola cheese, jalapeños, capers, and red onions

classic bloody mary and campari cocktail

brussels sprouts with pancetta, egg, and buttermilk

one of many amazing brooklyn restaurants worth the trek outside of my manhattan comfort zone. roberta's is cooking up some awesomely delicious pizzas with clever names that are just as epic. in addition to pizza, i would definitely recommend getting the brussels sprouts, not only to sneak in a healthy dose of veggies in between gulping bites of steaming hot cheesy meaty pizza, but also because their b.sprouts are just damn good.

mornings at vinegar hill house

la colombe cold brew

chef's beer

sunny duck egg with fried bread, samba, and confit

poached eggs with spinach and buttered wheat toast

roasted potatoes and sour cream

absolutely perfect in every way, two hour morning brunches at Vinegar Hill House on a windy Saturday could not be any more lovely. soft poached eggs in all their gooey dippable glory, seriously on point wilted spinach, buttery cripsy salty seven-grain toast... and to wash it all down my favorite cold brew coffee and magical chef's beer concoction.

five leaves, greenpoint

truffle french fries

chopped black kale salad with spicy anchovy dressing, aged gouda, and chopped hazelnuts

charcuterie plate with shaved fennel, olives, lavosh crackers, and mustard seeds

grass-fed beef burger with fried egg, harissa mayo, and truffle fries

Five Leaves is one of my current favorite places to eat. the menu offers E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G i love - but with an unexpected, most-welcome twist.

black kale salad? I've had you so many times and make you at home at least three times a week, how could I be surprised? chiffonade the leaves into delicious thin ribbons and throw a little spicy harissa anchovy dressing with chopped hazelnuts in there with tangy, melt-in-your-salivating mouth slivers of aged gouda? okay five leaves, i love you already.

french fries that look oh so plain, served in an everyday white bowl that suspiciously looks like it should be serving pho not fries? just wait until that blinding, knocks you off your chair, smell of hot truffle oil hits that special spot in your brain that is reserved for truffle scent appreciation. then you'll know. this isn't your average french fry.

a burger that is about the size of your face, composed of a perfectly cooked medium-rare patty, topped with an intentionally slightly undercooked fried egg (runny egg yolk completely mandatory). option for a side salad or truffle fries you say? not even a question which you should choose.

if you haven't been. go now.
